A Season Of Change

There is a change taking place on the ranch. After many years of dealing with cattle we have made a big decision. It is a well known fact among ranchers that there is no money in cows. Most of us have done it for a "lifestyle". Judi and I have spoken with Casey and we thought it might be good to sell the cows and focus on the horses. Now this was just a thought, but someone heard our thoughts and early, very early this morning we sold our entire herd.

We got a fair deal and did not lose any profit on trucking or auction commissons. Although we are excited, we are also a bit sad. Any way thanks for dropping by - have a great day.

Wow, you guys! Well blessing and good luck to you in this season of big change, I have always thought that your gift with horses was something that should be used.

Oh Dad, you broke your grandchildrens hearts. I told the kids that you sold your cows and right away they were almost in tears. Dawson yelled WHY? and Mercy asked, "Even Lonestar? My Bestest Friend Lonestar the Bull?"
Who knew they were so attached to your cattle..haha...
Change can be good sometimes and we look forward to coming and wearing your horses out for you. Just think no more cows getting out and having to round them back in.
ps Dawson just said, "lonestar was our buddy and we miss him!"

Now I'm in tears thinking about the impact on the Grand kids - who knew. It is not like they played with Lonestar in the backyard. O well.... too late they go in October. I just didn't want to take the calf money this year to pay for all the hay again. It is tough coming up with 40 tons of hay ay 140.00 a ton when there are other bills that need to be paid.

Let the kids know we will have cows each year, but we'll buy in the early spring to get ready for butcher in the fall. Much more doable!
